Why?

Cheny, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz and others in the Administration have participated in several "think tanks" that came to the conclusion that:

  • Post-Cold War, the USA needs to re-assert its Super Power Status

  • Nuclear Weapon Non-Proliferation is *bad* for the World - such Weapons are
    a primary deterrent

  • Military Might and threats are how America can gain dominance

Horrific? You bet. I grew up in a duck-and-cover world. Don't believe me? Would you think there was a ...Project for the New American Century?

Wonder what this will do to our Economy? What about "The Economic Consequences of a War with Iraq"?

Now, what is the impact of abandoning the U.N. regulations and going "preemptive"?

  • Inspections to disarm Nations "didn't work", so it won't continue as a rational means of achieving Peace. In essence, the U.S. actions killed the first, innovative, and only peaceful approach to getting rid of WMD

  • We set precedence on preemptive actions. Any threat from any nation, imagined or not, is grounds for war

  • Tactical Nuclear Weapons, or TNW, will be much worse than WMD in the long run. Proliferation will accelerate and we will see Pakistan/India and other feuding Countries threatening Nuclear confrontations
