The Imperial President (by way of Alito)

Ah, to go back in time and savor the recollection of the real George Bush:

"If this were a dictatorship, it'd be a heck of a lot easier...just as long as I'm the dictator..."--Washington, DC, Dec 18, 2000, during his first trip to Washington as President-Elect

...now that's honesty.

Dishonesty is signing a bill and putting a signing statement along side that takes the teeth out of the law just signed.

''The executive branch shall construe [the law] in a manner consistent with the constitutional authority of the President . . . as Commander in Chief, [this approach] will assist in achieving the shared objective of the Congress and the President . . . of protecting the American people from further terrorist attacks." Wait a minute! I thought Presidents had to uphold the Law - that is what the Legislative and Judicial branches are for! Is the president "above the law"?!

Unbridled Power: Illegal Wiretaps, Sneak and Peak (Patriot Act), Dismissing the Geneva Convention, Extraordinary Rendition/"torture-by-proxy" (Google "Gulfstream N379P"). It goes on and on.

Corruption? "Liberty is not a means to a higher political end. It is itself the highest political end...liberty is the only object which benefits all alike, and provokes no sincere opposition...The danger is not that a particular class is unfit to to govern. Every class is unfit to govern...Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely." - Lord Acton

All this is goodness in one way only: even the GOP is coming down on King George.
